Horse’s bodyweight estimation by measuring the girth size

The fitness of your horse is closely related to its bodyweight. Each horse has an optimal bodyweight which contributes to exercise performance (for racing, endurance, jumping and dressage). In addition, the diet should be in accord with the body weight changes. This simple application will assist you to assess the bodyweight of your horse for a better training and diet management. By measuring the girth size with a tape (in centimeters), you will immedialtely obtain the bodyweight estimation with a quite good accuracy of 10%. This method is more accurate than any subjective evaluation which underestimate the bodyweight. If you have no access to a scale, this application will be useful for you to assess the fitness of your horse.

How to use it ?
Adjust the tape around the trunk at the level of the girth and measure the gith size as exactly as possible in meter and centimeters. Enter the value into the field ‘girth size’ and clic on ‘calculate button’ to read the bodyweight estimate in kilograms. For example: you enter 1.85 m and the calculated weight is 494 kg.

Caution:
Use this method only for saddle horses, throroughbreds and standardbreds (girth size between 1.50 and 2.15 meter).
Do not use this method for drug prescription without veterinary advice.
